JOY BANGLA HALF MARATHON
The date 7 holds significant historical importance in Bangladesh for several reasons: March 7, 1971, was a pivotal moment in the struggle for the independence of Bangladesh. This date is famously remembered for the historic speech delivered by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh, at the Racecourse Ground (now Suhrawardy Udyan) in Dhaka. The speech, known as the ‘7th March Speech’, played a crucial role in galvanizing the Bengali population and mobilizing support for independence. The slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ united everyone in the war of liberation irrespective of race and religion. March 7, 1971, therefore, symbolizes the beginning of the journey toward independence for Bangladesh and serves as a reminder of the courage, determination, and resilience of the Bengali people in their quest for self-determination and sovereignty.
‘Joy Bangla’, the national slogan of Bangladesh; translated to ‘Victory to Bangla’ becomes the symbol of spirit, unity, inclusiveness, patriotism, and aspiration in shaping the destiny of the people of Bangladesh.
Earlier, on 7th June 1966, the six-point plan, spearheaded by the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is still a definitive point of reference in Bangladesh’s road to liberty.
To commemorate the significance of the days, the Bangladesh Police Athletics and Cycling Club invites you to participate in the Joy Bangla Marathon this year on 7 June 2024 and be a part of the progress story of the country both physically and mentally.
